Microbreweries to Discover in Gaspésie This Winter

Here are microbreweries you can visit this winter to taste the flavours of Gaspésie!

Le Ketch is a new microbrewery located by the sea in the village of Sainte-Flavie, at the gateway to the Gaspé Peninsula. Le Ketch microbrewery invites you to discover its beers in a maritime atmosphere. Near the sign for this microbrewery, you can observe an actual ketch, a type of two-masted sailboat made of mahogany and oak. On site, you’ll find a tasty selection of brews made with local ingredients, including hops grown in Maria and honey produced by Vieux Moulin in Sainte-Flavie. It offers a diverse menu featuring local products. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, in winter.

As much as possible, the La Fabrique pub showcases local products on its menu, inviting you to discover fresh breads as well as meats and cheeses from the Matane area. The menu includes a variety of poutines along with chicken, ribs, mussels, fish and chips, burgers, sandwiches and salads. The pub’s blackboard menu features about 20 beers made on site along with a few select craft beers from all over Québec. Open daily, from 11:30 a.m.

The bistro at the Le Malbord microbrewery offers a gourmet pub-style menu featuring local products in exceptional flavour combinations. In addition to pizzas, burgers, pasta dishes, chili and nachos, you can enjoy healthy no-fry dishes, alternative snacks or the blackboard special, which varies according to the chef’s inspiration. For a perfect beer and food pairing, you can choose from among the delicious beers made by Le Malbord as well as several other microbrews and spirits made in Québec. Open from Thursday to Sunday, from 4 p.m. (closed from December 20 to February 16).

Brewed near the picturesque fishing harbour of L’Anse-à-Beaufils, Pit Caribou’s quality beers showcase local ingredients. Enjoy a wide range of craft beers and entertaining shows in the warm atmosphere of the Pit Caribou pub, located in the village of Percé. The Pub is open Monday to Thursday, from 3 p.m., and Friday to Sunday, from 1 p.m. and the shop in L’anse-à-Beaufils is open daily, from 10 a.m.

The pub-style menu at the Le Naufrageur microbrewery showcases many products from Gaspésie, much to the delight of locavores. The menu includes open-faced sandwiches, pizzas, nachos and snacks such as cold cuts. Brewed on site with ingredients from Gaspésie and the rest of Québec, Le Naufrageur’s beers are as local as it gets. Let your taste buds discover their delicious flavours, which are sometimes quite unusual! Open Wednesday to Saturday, from 11:30 a.m.

The La Captive microbrewery is located in a historic building in Amqui, in the Matapédia Valley, that once housed the town’s police station, jail and fire station. The menu offers a good selection of seasonal house beers as well as appetizers, salads, gourmet sandwiches, decadent burgers, fine pizzas and more. Local products and promotional items are also available in the boutique. Open Tuesday to Friday, from 8 a.m. and from 3 p.m. on Saturday.

These seven microbreweries are all part of the Route des bières de l’Est-du-Québec, a beer trail with 18 microbreweries to visit in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Gaspésie and the Îles de la Madeleine. Together, they offer over 100 different products with unique flavours. Along the way, you can meet the brewers and find out more about their trade and methods, which will help you appreciate the fruits of their labour even more!
