July 15 to September 30, 2018 - Everywhere in Gaspésie
On the theme of “Chaos,” the 9th Rencontres will run from July 15 to September 30, 2018. It will be presenting 16 exhibitions in a total of 11 municipalities and 3 national parks in the Gaspé region, on a route that covers more than 800 kilometers and that this year will showcase large-format works and unusual devices for a new outdoor-exhibit experience.
Rencontres is offering the public more than 30 initiatives pertaining to contemporary photography: exhibitions, discussions with artists, a participatory project, residencies and presentation of the photobook collection. Evenings of screenings, discussions and performances with guest artists in attendance will also be part of the event on August 17 and 18.
“Chaos”brings together 17 artists from Québec, elsewhere in Canada and other parts of the world around a reflection on a planetary environment undergoing profound change. Their images are intended to represent rights of reply to a chaos as a way of denouncing the flaws and bankruptcies of a fragmented present. They evoke the conflicts, the places and the populations affected notably through borders, architecture or military zones

Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie came into being in 2010. An annual summertime event, it introduces the public to contemporary photographic creation, its language, its codes and its various esthetics through occupation of a particular region: the Gaspé Peninsula. There it presents a series of exhibitions and installations, public events conceived as a space for reflection and initiation, and a program of artist residencies and of exchanges with festivals in other countries.
