In the Behind the Scenes in Gaspésie web series, Christine Bérubé-Martin meets with the people who help make winters in Gaspésie so special. One of these people is Pascale Deschamps, co-owner of Camp de Base Gaspésie, a lodge located in Coin-du-Banc, near Percé.

A new lease on life for a historic building

Camp de Base Gaspésie is a hotspot for nature lovers in Gaspésie thanks to Pascale Deschamps and Jean-François Tapp, who purchased the former Auberge Le Coin du Banc in 2017. Giving this 200-year-old building new life was not just a business project for Pascale since she was keen to preserve the soul of the lodge while modernizing it and transforming it into a warm and welcoming place.

Passionate about the great outdoors, Pascale and Jean-François have also made outdoor activities a central part of what they offer. Today, this site has become a popular destination for adventure seekers visiting this area.

A natural playground between sea and mountains

Located in Coin-du-Banc, Camp de Base Gaspésie is only a 15-minute drive from Percé. On site, you’ll find a wide range of accommodation options, from comfortable rooms in the lodge to cozy rustic cottages as well as tent and camper van sites.

Camp de Base Gaspésie provides a perfect year-round home base for exploring the region. In the winter, you can discover the great outdoors in the Percé area by booking an introduction to ice climbing or renting Hok skis. You can also go fatbiking on the snowy trails in the Mabe woods.

In the summer, the bay and beach in Coin-du-Banc are ideal for stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and fishing for striped bass. You can also participate in guided sea kayaking excursions, which will allow you to paddle close to Percé Rock and perhaps even spot seals. For those who prefer the forest, you can go mountain biking or trail running on various technical trails in the area. Both of these activities can be enjoyed on your own or with a guide.

You can also enjoy fine dining at the Camp de Base restaurant. The seasonal menu showcases local ingredients and features regional classics such as bouillabaisse and the catch of the day. In the spring, you can satisfy your sweet tooth thanks to a collaboration with a local maple syrup producer. This is probably your only chance to enjoy a sugar shack experience by the sea!

Camp de Base Gaspésie is a complete destination combining the pleasures of fine dining with outdoor adventures in a sea and mountain environment. Don’t miss this opportunity to relax in the hot tub by the water!
