Le Nordet: A Family Story Behind an Eco-Friendly Project

Passionate people are behind every snowmobile trail, every backcountry ski run and every innovative project in Gaspésie. Hosted by Christine Bérubé-Martin, the Behind the Scenes in Gaspésie web series showcases some of the people who contribute to the vitality of a region where winter is much more than just a season.

One of these people is Jeffrey Samuel-Bond, co-owner of Le Nordet in Saint-Georges-de-Malbaie, an entrepreneur who stands out for his desire to build a company in line with his values.

An entrepreneurial journey: From dream to reality

How Le Nordet came to be is a family story, a childhood dream come true and the launching of a passion project. Jeffrey Samuel-Bond worked as an adventure guide for several years before naturally turning to entrepreneurship. Along with his successful career as a guide, he had a long-held dream: to purchase the Bond Motel, which had been built by his grandfather. In 2019, he was finally able to fulfill this dream by acquiring the property with his godfather and turning it into Le Nordet, an ecotourism centre offering outdoor activities and a Nordic spa.

Beyond having this childhood dream, Jeffrey has always held strong values. Environmentally conscious and concerned about the effects of climate change, he has chosen to be as eco-responsible as possible. Many business decisions, including the spa’s opening hours and the choice to renovate rather than rebuild, are directly in line with this approach.

A complete ecotourism experience

Located roughly halfway between Percé and Gaspé, Le Nordet offers a rejuvenating experience in a remarkable natural setting near the sea and the forest. The site offers a Nordic spa, outdoor activities and eco-friendly accommodations that complement each other perfectly.

The first Nordic spa in Gaspésie, Thuya Spa provides a complete thermal experience with various pools and massage therapy.

In addition to relaxation, visitors can enjoy a variety of year-round outdoor activities to discover the Pointe-Saint-Pierre area. In the winter, guided snowshoeing excursions are available. You can also rent equipment and explore a self-guided trail at your own pace.

In the summer, kayaking excursions allow you to admire Percé Rock from a completely different angle or paddle along Pointe Verte and observe the surprising geology in this area. You may also encounter seabirds, seals and even whales! These excursions are suitable for young families as well as experienced paddlers and are offered in a variety of formats.

After a day in the great outdoors, the rooms at Le Nordet offer a dreamlike place to rest. The establishment strikes a rare balance between accessibility and tranquility as well as being the perfect place for a responsible vacation.
