Experience a Sea Excursion in Gaspésie

Want to head out to sea? In Gaspésie, sea excursions are a great way to experience the St. Lawrence and discover the many wonders of this majestic waterway.

Whether during a cruise, on a stand-up paddleboard or in an inflatable boat, sea kayak or sailboat, every sea outing is an opportunity to explore cliffs, spot whales and observe seabirds. If you have your own vessel, some areas such as Chaleur Bay offer easy access to the water.

In Gaspésie, the sea is salty and cold, and the tides are strong. To enjoy the water safely, you will need to be well prepared or accompanied by a guide. Many local companies offer guided excursions from May to October. In the fall, the landscapes burst into vibrant colours, and you can still observe whales offshore. In the spring, you may be able to paddle among the ice floes as they begin to melt.

Whale-Watching Cruises

Depending on the time of year, up to six species of whales can be found in Gaspé Bay and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. These include blue whales, the largest animals in the world, and spectacular humpbacks. You are also likely to see seals and perhaps even sharks. These cruises depart from Percé or Gaspé.

Cruises to Percé and Bonaventure Island

Hop on a boat at the Percé wharf to sail around Percé Rock and observe the seabird colonies found on Bonaventure Island in Parc national de l’Île-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé. Home to 200,000 nesting birds including 116,000 northern gannets, this park is the largest migratory bird sanctuary in North America.
