Getting Around in Gaspésie
You have several options to get around in Gaspésie. Driving is obviously the easiest way to explore the region since you can then travel to any village, admire the surrounding scenery and stop freely along the way. However, keep in mind that driving to Gaspésie is almost certainly going to be a long journey. Once you arrive, the region is vast and touring around the entire peninsula takes time. Your GPS can estimate the duration of your trip but will obviously not account for all the stops, detours and discoveries you will want to make along the way.
Distances and Travel Times in Gaspésie
Public transit within towns and cities is limited, but it is usually possible to get around on foot, rent a bike or take a taxi. You can also take buses from one town to the next. Be sure to inquire about services and schedules in advance so you can plan your travel accordingly.

Can I get around in Gaspésie by bus?
Yes. You can travel by bus with Orléans Express to Gaspésie as well as within the region. Two routes are available departing from Mont-Joli, one via the northern side of the peninsula and the other via the southern side. Together they will take you around the entire region, stopping in about 20 towns along the way. Note that Murdochville is on one of these routes but not Forillon National Park.
Cyclists can also have their bikes transported by bus, a useful service for those who want to explore Gaspésie on two wheels.
Is public transit available in Gaspésie?
Yes. The Régie intermunicipale de transport Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine (RÉGÎM) (website in French only) provides public and shared transit services in Gaspésie in the eastern part of the peninsula, from Cap-Chat (near Sainte-Anne-des-Monts) to Matapédia, including Murdochville.
Public transit services are accessible to all and available Monday to Friday, except on statutory holidays. Tickets can be purchased on board, at various points of sale or online. Some trips require a reservation.
Bike racks are available upon reservation from May 1 to October 31. Some municipalities also offer car-sharing and bike-sharing services.
Is car sharing available in Gaspésie?
Yes, in some towns. In collaboration with the Régie intermunicipale de transport Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine (RÉGÎM), several municipalities provide cars for shared use. This transportation option is available in Gaspé, Grande-Rivière, Chandler, Maria and Carleton-sur-Mer. Visit the RÉGÎM website (in French only) for more information.
Is transportation to Parc national de la Gaspésie available?
Yes. From early July to late September, a shuttle bus runs once a day between the tourist information office in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts and Parc national de la Gaspésie. Shuttle services are also available within the park to take you to certain sectors and run on a fixed schedule. Reservations may be required. Visit the park’s official website for more details.
Can I take a bus to Forillon National Park?
Yes. The Régie intermunicipale de transport Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine (RÉGÎM) offers a shuttle bus service between the village of L’Anse-au-Griffon and the town of Gaspé via Cap-des-Rosiers, Cap-aux-Os and Penouille. The stops in Cap-des-Rosiers and Penouille as well as at Fort Péninsule provide access to Forillon National Park. Once in the park, no additional transportation services are available, so you will need to get around on foot or by bike, if you bring your own.
Can I rent a car in Gaspésie?
Yes. You can rent a car in several towns throughout Gaspésie, including Matane, Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Gaspé, Grande-Rivière, Chandler, Port-Daniel, Bonaventure, New Richmond, Maria, Pointe-à-la-Croix and Amqui. Major rental companies such as Discount, Location Sauvageau and Thrifty operate in the region.
Car sharing is also available through the Régie intermunicipale de transport Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine (RÉGÎM) (website in French only).
Are electric vehicle charging stations available in Gaspésie?
Yes. Electric vehicle charging stations are available throughout the region, usually no more than 100 km apart. They can be found in many town centres as well as near attractions, restaurants, lodging establishments and some other businesses. It is therefore entirely possible to drive around Gaspésie in an electric car.

Yes, taxis are available in Gaspésie, but they are limited. Most of the larger towns offer taxi services, including Mont-Joli, Matane, the towns in La Haute-Gaspésie, Gaspé, Chandler (including the Percé area), Bonaventure, New Richmond and Amqui. Booking a taxi in advance is highly recommended.
