Rivière-à-Claude (municipalité)

This municipality brings together two villages: Rivière-à-Claude and Ruisseau-à-Rebours. Separated by lowlands and nestled at the foot of the mountains, these communities are located along the shoreline.

Rivière-à-Claude is said to have gotten its name from a distortion of Rivière-à-Glaudes, so named because of the kingfishers (glaudes) that fish for trout in the river. Ruisseau-à-Rebours, on the other hand, was either named after a land surveyor (Arbour or Harbourg) or for the meanders at the mouth of the river, which give the impression that the water flows backwards (à rebours). Be sure to stop and admire the view from the Pierre-Drapeau lookout.
