Five kilometres along the road south of Mont-Joli lies the picturesque village of Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici. Gateway to the Matapédia Valley, this village and its 1,000 inhabitants is sure to charm you with its magnificent mountain landscapes that gradually come into view as you make your way farther south. It also has a delightful micro-climate due to its geographic location.
As for Rivière Mitis, it allows for a number of recreational activities. There is also a roadside rest area just where you arrive in the village, a multicultural centre housed in the former presbytery next to the church. Erected in 1908 and assuredly one of the Gaspé Peninsula’s most beautiful churches, it holds a 22-pipe Casavant organ (built in 1915) and frescoesby Italian painter Mario Mauro. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit it.
