At Parc du Vieux-Quai, in the village core, there are a number of services and a cultural activity program (shows, summer theatre, etc.) open to the public. The birthplace of a number of celebrities in the artistic and cultural communities, Maria has several studio-galleries where the public is welcome.
East of the municipality, the Mi’gmaq community of Gesgapegiag is built around a wigwam-shaped church; the community’s craft cooperative sells traditional basketry items.The Pointe-Verte municipal park is the ideal place to relax, watch a variety of birds, and read the interpretation panels. Near a roadside rest area, the maintained Goélands beach is a great spot for a picnic and a walk along the shore; you can also admire a magnificent monolithic sculpture and a giant natural picture frame. Mountain bike along the backcountry concession roads, or ranges as they’re called locally, or check out the reputed Carleton-Maria network of hiking trails. In winter, the slopes and trails at the outdoor centre are open for a number of sport activities (cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, tobogganing and tubing); other activities are organised near the sport chalet (skating and pick-up hockey, tobogganing and tubing).
