Can’t-Miss Winter Experiences in La Baie-des-Chaleurs in Gaspésie

Here are a few winter activities you can enjoy in nature in La Baie-des-Chaleurs in Gaspésie.

Bioparc de la Gaspésie in Bonaventure 

Although generally closed in the winter, the Bioparc de la Gaspésie offers a few special activities in the winter, including a photo safari and an activity to discover nocturnal animals called “Full Moon at the Bioparc.” In addition, you can visit the animals in this wildlife park accompanied by naturalists during spring break.

Station touristique Pin Rouge in New Richmond

With many kilometres of mountain trails and slopes, the Pin Rouge ski resort offers downhill skiing, fatbiking, snowshoeing and alpine touring. The resort also has a floodlit skating rink and snow tubing facilities. Chalets are available for rent year-round.

Backcountry skiing at Site de Maria in Maria

Located in an old sugar bush, this site developed by Gaspésie-Nature offers a beautiful natural playground in the mountains of Maria where you can go backcountry skiing on your own. Affiliated with the FQME, an organization that promotes backcountry skiing in Québec, the site offers beginner/intermediate glade skiing and snowboarding. (Note that you must become a member of the FQME to ski there.) There’s a warming hut halfway up.

Le Petit Chamonix in Matapédia 

Petit Chamonix is a family-friendly ski resort in Matapédia offering 13 slopes, including two snow parks. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, you can go alpine touring, snow tubing, outdoor skating and snowshoeing on this site. Thanks to a well-equipped rental centre, the ski resort also offers adapted skiing.

Route des Belvédères scenic drive

Admire the beauty of the winter scenery in this area from two unique lookouts along the Route des Belvédères scenic drive. Located in Matapédia and Saint-André-de-Restigouche, these lookouts are accessible on foot and are connected by the International Appalachian Trail (IAT). Please note that the Reception Center is not open in winter.

For a perfect gourmet day out in the La Baie-des-Chaleurs sector, have breakfast in the café area at Ferme Bourdages Tradition in Saint-Siméon, discover the spirits flavoured with botanicals made at the beautiful Distillerie des Marigots in Caplan, pick up a sandwich or an organic loaf of bread at Boulangerie La Pétrie in Bonaventure and end your day with a meal and a craft beer at the La Belle Aventure brewpub!

Winter event not to miss

Noël en Gaspésie, 15 novembre 2025 au 1er janvier 2026

From November 15, 2025, to January 1, 2026, Noël en Gaspésie offers a multitude of activities that will appeal to visitors of all ages, including a Christmas market and a Santa Claus parade in the centre of New Richmond. In addition, you can try out various winter sports and enjoy shows that will get you into the holiday spirit!
