Here’s a suggested four-day itinerary for a getaway in the Le Rocher-Percé sector in Gaspésie. In addition to being home to legendary Percé Rock, this sector offers a host of attractions and activities for the whole family.
Day 1 – Arrival in Gaspésie and drive to Percé
Once you arrive in Mont-Joli, you’re in Gaspésie. From there, follow Route 132, which loops around the entire Gaspé Peninsula. To get to the Le Rocher-Percé sector, you have two options: you can either drive south (via Route 132 E) for five hours or north (via Route 132 W) for six hours. Either way, the scenery is magnificent! Our tip: opt for a different route in each direction.
Once in Le Rocher-Percé, make yourself comfortable in one of the sector’s many lodging establishments and then celebrate your arrival with a gourmet meal in one of Percé’s village restaurants. Paqbo (in Riôtel Percé), the Hôtel La Normandie restaurant, La Maison du Pêcheur, the La Maison Mathilde restaurant and Buvette Thérèse all offer menus featuring delicious specialties made with local ingredients. Many also offer breathtaking views of Percé Rock and Bonaventure Island!
Day 2 – History, outdoor activities and relaxation
Get up early to admire the sunrise over Percé Rock. Afterwards, take advantage of the early-morning quiet in the village to go on the historical walking tour of Percé. Audiovisual capsules are available free of charge in a playlist on the Tourisme Percé YouTube channel.
You can then choose from a variety of outdoor activities in the Percé area. At the Camp de Base Gaspésie in Coin-du-Banc, you can participate in various guided activities: fatbiking on the beach, sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding or sea fishing for striped bass. You can also enjoy a meal at the lodge, which offers a menu featuring regional cuisine.
At Nordet in Saint-Georges-de-Malbaie, you can discover the superb Pointe Saint-Pierre during a guided sea kayaking excursion or relax at the Thuya Spa, which offer thermotherapy and massage therapy. You can also grab a bite to eat on site at the Bond Café.
With Plongée Percé, you can take a scuba diving class or go snorkelling with a guide to see fabulous underwater scenery.
In Coin-du-Banc, you can recharge your batteries at the Sentiers Secrets wellness centre, which offers massage therapy, forest meditation and mindfulness workshops, among other things.
To end the day on a high note, savour a tasty local beer on the patio of the Pit Caribou microbrewery as you soak up the view of the L’Anse-à-Beaufils harbour.
Day 3 – Fun for the whole family
Whether you’re travelling with kids or not, here are three activities that are suitable for the whole family. First, Circuit Nitram Plus in Grande-Rivière offers five waterslides as well as go-kart and dirt buggying tracks, paintball and miniature golf, all of which are sure to please kids of all ages.
In Chandler, the Circuit des Bâtisseurs is a 4-km paved walking and biking trail along the waterfront, with access to the world’s longest aluminum footbridge!
You can also spend some time on one of the many sandy beaches in the Chandler area. The Banc de Pabos, Beaux Sables and Chandler Marina beaches are all great places to relax along the water.
End your day in the maritime atmosphere of the café bistro in La Vieille Usine in L’Anse-à-Beaufils. This former fish-processing plant is now a cultural centre that offers a varied program.
Day 4 – Shopping in Percé
On your last day in this sector, why not browse the local boutiques? At Espace Wazo, you’ll find magnificent jewellery and art pieces designed by artisan Martin Boucher Arsenault. Boutique La Marinière offers exclusive, locally made woven and knit items, ceramics and clothing, while Boutique Le Macareux is a good place to shop for t-shirts, semi-precious stones (including agates) and locally made creations by Faite Icitte. Once you’ve finished shopping, head back towards Gaspé or Chaleur Bay depending on your chosen route.
