Itinerary to Discover La Côte-de-Gaspé in Gaspésie

Here’s a suggested four-day itinerary for a stay in the La Côte-de-Gaspé sector in Gaspésie. Enjoy the vastness of the sea, the mountains and rivers in the backcountry, as well as a multitude of gourmet and cultural discoveries!

Day 1 – Arrival in Gaspésie and drive to Gaspé

Once you arrive in Sainte-Flavie, you’re in Gaspésie. Roll down your windows, breathe in the fresh sea air and admire the scenery! You still have a three-hour drive ahead of you to reach the La Côte-de-Gaspé sector, so you might as well relax and enjoy the meandering road that will take you there. With the sea on one side and the mountains on the other, the landscapes all around you are breathtaking!

Once you arrive in La Côte-de-Gaspé, you’ll find a wide selection of lodging options whether you want to stay in the centre of the town of Gaspé or in one of the charming villages in this sector that stretches from Grande-Vallée to Prével.

Make the most of your first evening by savouring local flavours at a restaurant. One option is the friendly Brise-Brise bistro-bar, which offers fish, seafood and grilled specialties, two patios and live entertainment. Another is TÉTÛ Taverne Gaspésienne, which overlooks Gaspé Bay and offers seafood, wood-fired Neapolitan pizza and other tasty dishes. Both restaurants are also great places to discover local beers and spirits, including Radoune gin made by the O’Dwyer Distillery in Gaspé.

Day 2 – Mountains, rivers and lakes in the backcountry

There are many things to do in the backcountry in this sector. In Murdochville, the York Lake Outdoor Centre (managed by Chic-Chac) offers trails, camping and boat rentals so you can go fishing on the lake.

In Gaspé, you can go salmon fishing in the crystal-clear York, Darmouth and Saint-Jean rivers. If you’d rather go mountain biking, head just a few minutes out of town to the Sentiers du Bout du Monde trails, which offer superb views of Gaspé Bay.

After a full day in the great outdoors, pick up some gourmet treats at the Marché des Saveurs Gaspésiennes, a gourmet shop specializing in local products in the centre of Gaspé, and then head to Haldimand Beach for an evening picnic on the sand.

Day 3 – A day on the water

To discover La Côte-de-Gaspé during a day out along the coast, you can choose from a range of fun outdoor activities.

Based in L’Anse-au-Griffon, Griffon Aventure offers canyoning expeditions through a natural water park featuring pools and river slides.

Another option is to go on a cruise with an experienced interpreter guide and captain from Croisières Baie de Gaspé, Croisières Cap Gaspé or Croisière Forillon. This is an opportunity to explore maritime landscapes safely and comfortably while discovering the fascinating life of marine mammals in the waters off Forillon National Park. You can also go sea kayaking with Cap Aventure in the same area.

In the evening, enjoy a meal featuring local flavours at the L’Aubergine restaurant (in Hôtel-Motel Grande-Vallée), La Marée Haute restaurant (in the motel of the same name, also in Grande-Vallée) or La Révolte resto-pub (in Auberge Le Caribou in Rivière-au-Renard). Then take in a show at the renowned Théâtre de la Vieille Forge in Petite-Vallée.

Day 4 – A day in historic Gaspé

Fill up on breakfast pastries and coffee at the cozy oh les pains bakery on colourful Rue de la Reine. Then immerse yourself in downtown Gaspé in the early 1900s by visiting the historic buildings at the Birthplace of Canada site and listening to their interpreter guides, before hitting the road again.

To extend your stay, find out more about all seven sectors of Gaspésie.
